Albermarle-Kenmore Terrace
Albermarle and Kenmore Terraces are two quiet residential
courts, less than a block in length off East 21st Street. These small peaceful
mews were built on land owned by the Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church, and Teunis
Bergen, an early settler in Flatbush, and were undeveloped until 1916.
Albermarle Terrace has charming, Neo-Federal brick and limestone
houses on either side of the street, raised above street level and set back
behind small gardens. There are two distinctive styles to these houses, which
form a symmetrical pattern, yet retain minor variations that make them individual.
Three red-brick houses fronting East 21st Street are more functional, less ornamental
and more in keeping with the contemporary row of houses which were constructed
later on Kenmore Terrace.
